The theory “Motivation Springs from the Opposite” by Laozi gives an elaboration about the cause and motivation of the motion and variance of things as well as the law that the two opposite sides are interdependent and can be mutually transformed.

Such a theory suggests that both positive aid and negative criticism are the revolutionary driving force behind the course of history. On the other hand, “Fan”, instead of meaning  “opposite”, implies “return”, proposing to return to the origin of a thing, to sweep away the dust of history and trace to the root of things. “Motivation Springs from the Opposite” reveals the progressive power entailed by the criticism and experiment of contemporary fiber art movements.
