Interface.Metal, electric wires, computer, screen, LED.3.5m.2025
This work continues the artist’s ongoing House series, which has previously used physical space as a carrier to explore the dynamic relationship between the individual and the environment. For the 5th Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Art, Interface introduces real-time digital interaction. The work creates a tension between the "hard structure" of entangled wires and the flowing virtual images, furthering the artist’s investigation into the concept of the "container" and expanding on their research focus on the theme of "reality and virtuality." At its core, Interface is an artistic dissection of technological rationality: by defunctionalizing everyday digital tools such as social media, AI dialogue, and virtual beings, and placing them in a surreal context, the work forces the audience to confront a state of existence increasingly alienated by data. Its innovation lies not only in the integration of technologies, but also in the use of fiber art’s inherent softness to resist digital hardness—reigniting the human capacity to perceive reality within the fissures of wires and screens.
