Her fiber-art installation Afterglow received the Lin Fengmian Creation Silver Award; Listener won the Chongli Art Scholarship and was acquired for the permanent collection of the China Academy of Art; and NO.333, shown in New Horizons—Nomination Exhibition for Young Contemporary Artists (a parallel show of the 3rd Asian Art Biennial), and earned the Emerging Artist Award. Wang Shanyu’s work has been exhibited in Beijing, Qingdao, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, and other cities. Frequently centering on imagined mythical creatures, she weaves, binds, and sculpts in three dimensions, merging observed natural forms with a boundless imagination. The resulting scenes—where humans and fantastical beasts coexist across dimensional boundaries—invite viewers to reflect on the relationship between humanity and nature.

In an era of rapid industrial development and excessive human exploitation of nature, a “mutated entity” is born from an egg. When you stand inside its cavity and look upward, the reflected image confronts you: is it the discomfort or despair of being swallowed by a colossal creature, the thrill and anticipation of coexisting with an alien creature, or the healing and comfort of returning to a "natural mother"?
