Gao Ruyun

Gao Ruyun’s artistic practice primarily manifests in installations, paintings, photography, etc. Gao Ruyun employs mechanical movement techniques—utilizing forms and rhythms devoid of specific signification—to circumvent subjectivity and emotion. This approach maintains a deliberate distance between the viewer and the work, dissolving sensitivity toward the piece and instead creating a contemplative space, ultimately leading to an unobstructed, boundless "steady path." Gao Ruyun's black lines follow precise trajectories and rhythms, approaching and then detaching again and again. This repetition leaves geometric traces in the viewer's visual memory that time and space can never be fixed. His works suggest potential relationships, whether active or passive, revealing profound psychological tension beneath their serene surfaces and inviting open-ended interpretation.

“Infinitely Approaching Zero” is a kinetic installation featuring motor-driven linear movements. Black lines follow precise trajectories and rhythms, approaching and then receding in cyclical motion. This repetition leaves geometric traces in the viewer's visual memory that time and space can never be fixed. The work neatly integrates varying degrees of simulation and dynamism, utilizing forms and rhythms devoid of specific signification to circumvent subjectivity and emotion. This approach maintains a deliberate distance between the viewer and the work, dissolving sensitivity toward the piece and instead creating a contemplative space, ultimately leading to an unobstructed, boundless "steady path". The artist employs this infinitely approaching-zero motion state to compose what might be termed "mathematical objects" – structures encompassing function, numerical values, spatial relationships, and movement itself.
