Mark Newport

    Mark Newport was born on February 8, 1964 in Amsterdam, NY. He earned his BFA in 1986 from the Kansas City Art Institute and his MFA in 1991 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Newport’s work has been exhibited throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

    Recent awards include grants from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, Creative Capital Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, and the Arizona Commission on the Arts. Newport’s work is in the collections of The Whitney Museum of American Art; The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Arizona State University Art Museum, the Cranbrook Art Museum, and The Detroit Institute of Arts.
Newport is the Artist-in-Residence and Head of Fiber at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He lives in Oak Park, Michigan.
