Ektor Garcia

    Ektor Garcia, born in Red Bluff, California, USA in 1985, received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014, and his MFA from Columbia University, New York in 2016. garcia lives and works in Mexico City and New York.

matanza, a piece made by hand sewing many scraps of leather with hemp thread, using the natural edges of the scraps dictating how they connect, the finished piece made me think of a body bag, which made me think of the death of all the cows in the leather industry, which inspired the title.

pin and mount me, is a large cowhide from which i've cut out the shape of a goat hide, then reattached by sewing back in place, next to it is a butterfly made of crocheted cotton.
