Weaving & We 2016 Hangzhou Triennial of Fibre Art FAB-LAB Lecture
Time:2015/11/02 Number of readings:

From Nov. 2nd to 28th, Qin Dali, associate Professor from the School of Architecture and All, the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, together with his assistant Liang Shangyan, from the School of Architecture and All, the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts was invited to give a four-week class named “Weaving Sculpture” to graduates, PhD students and teachers in the Department of Fibre Art, the School of Sculpture and Public Art, the China Academy of Art.

In class, following the principle of “from skills to theories”, Qin Dali mainly focuses on the skills of weaving and modelling with rattan and bark. He deconstructs, recombines and innovates traditional skills on basket weaving so as to maintain the weaving language and to meet the requirements of modern sculptures. He always encourages students to remould and innovate from the inside of weaving in the process of understanding materials and skills, and thus to create weaving sculptures under new context.

The class was highly welcomed by all faculties and students in the China Academy of Art and Mr. Qin Dali impressed them deeply with his rigorous scholarship. Many students said that this class explored their academic horizon, helped them to understand traditional weaving skills and culture, and encouraged them to re-scrutinise and to think about the relationship between traditional weaving and modern art.
